Legality and Certification
We go to great lengths to ensure our products come from legally harvested and well-managed forest or plantation resources.
Legality & Sustainability
Responsible purchasing is an essential core value of our business.
Throughout our business, Meyer work to the requirements of recognised Chain of Custody systems, which are a certified way of making sure that a product has come from a defined and sustainable source. The majority of our products are certified to ensure that they have been legally harvested from sustainably managed forests. All our product sources are appraised using detailed due diligence procedures to ensure that they meet the criteria for legality set by the European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR).
We operate under two sets of globally recognised certification standards: Forest Stewardship Council ® (FSC®) and the Programme of Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC™). Both of these schemes promote sustainable forest and plantation management by using product tracking processes.
Whilst legality is an absolute minimum requirement when working with new suppliers, preference is always given to those who can also demonstrate sustainability, as well as an ethical attitude that reflects our own.

The Timber Trade Federation and Responsible Purchasing
Responsible purchasing is absolutely essential to the way Meyer is run. Where a product is not Chain of Custody (COC) certified, we apply a meticulous process of 3rd party audited due diligence to ensure that all our products have come from legal sources.
Our buyers regularly visit all our key suppliers throughout the world, to ensure that high quality source information is available for the raw materials used in the manufacture of our products. In some potentially ‘higher risk’ areas, such as SE Asia, we actually visit suppliers further up the chain, to satisfy ourselves that our own suppliers' due diligence is of a consistently high quality.
We are members of the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) and as such we are a committed signatory to the TTF’s Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP), which requires us to submit our due diligence processes in respect of product purchasing to annual 3rd party audit. This process is a key component in our strategy to meet the requirements of the EUTR. We enjoy representation on the Forests Forever Executive Board, the sustainability committee of the TTF. In this capacity, we remain at the forefront of the sustainability agenda and, in particular, help to shape the sustainability policies for all TTF members, ensuring that timber remains available as the ecologically sound material of choice for specifiers throughout the UK.
